Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss Announces Success of Assignment of Irvington Police

Press Release Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss Announces Success of Assignment of Irvington Police at Irvington Housing Authority Irvington, NJ, March 25, 2015: Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss announced that a new initiative that assigns Irvington police officers to Housing Authority properties under a shared services agreement with the Authority, has already proven to be very promising in making Irvington a safer place to live. “The number of non-medical calls for police deployment to the Housing Authority properties have gone down from 109 between January 12th and February 5, 2015, to 73 between February 12th to March 5th,” said Mayor Vauss. “This represents a 32% drop in required police action due to reported criminal activity at the Housing Authority. It appears that criminals and potential perpetrators are getting the message that Irvington is not the place to commit their crimes.” “I am pleased with the great promise this program has shown in such a short period of time,” said Acting Police Director Musa Malik. “The Mayor’s goal is a clean and safe Irvington and we continue to look for innovative ways to target crime. Criminals should be on notice that Irvington is not a safe haven for them.” For information please call: Acting Police Director Musa Malik at 973-399-6507.
